Deep River Outfall Segment 2 Sewer System Improvements
City of High Point, NC

Davis-Martin-Powell and Associates provided complete planning, design and construction administration services for the Deep River Outfall Segment 2 Sewer System Improvement project.  This $11.9 million project replaced approximately 2.5 miles of a 12 mile existing major outfall, which serves the eastern portion of the City of High Point.

Project Highlights

  • 3,700 linear feet of 54- to 66-inch sanitary sewer at depths up to 60 feet
  • 1,400 linear feet of tunnel, installed via hand-mining and TBM (tunnel boring machine)
  • 650 linear feet of tunnel installed to avoid impacting an environmentally sensitive area
  • Approximately 74,000 cubic yards of rock excavation required
  • Allowed for the removal of 4,500 linear feet of existing aerial sewer

The Deep River Outfall replacement project is phased in 6 distinct segments.  Segments 1-4 have been constructed, with Segments 5 & 6 slated to begin construction within the next 12 months.
